To give the best result, virgin human hair wigs are the best hair wig to use for coloring as it will absorb the color better for its porous feature. Moreover, they have never been through treatment, permed, dyed or bleached. Besides, virgin hair is collected from one single donor only. Its cuticles are intact and all run in the same direction.
Notes:
- If you choose another type of hair that comes from more than 1 donor you have to accept the fact that after the bleaching process there will still be some uneven-color part.
- If your wigs are naturally dark, to get a platinum blond, the bleaching process must be repeated several times with several days of rest in between.
II, Products you need to dye human hair wig
Prepare the right products help your game so much easier
- A black human hair wig
- 20 volume-developer
- Blonde powder lightener
- Neutralizing shampoo

Notes:
- Bleach kit can be a great choice since it contains bleach powder and liquid peroxide, a stronger formula for dark hair.
- Peroxide is available in a variety of strengths ranging from 10 volume to 40 volume. Forty volume is only used for tipping dark hair and never comes into contact with the skin, also it is too strong for general bleaching. Thirty volumes will work faster than either 20 or 10 volumes.
- It is important to use plastic or non-metallic bowls, brushes, clips and T-pins as they don’t react with the chemicals in the bleach
III, How to dye wig hair step-by-step (with note)
After you finish coating the color into the hair, let your hair process for about 22 minutes or more, depending on your purpose. When you see the hair strands changing the color the way you want to obtain, it’s time to rinse out the
Step 1: Soak your hair in melted coconut oil overnight.
This is an optional part but if you want to prolong your wig for a long time don’t miss this part. Soaking coconut oil all over your wig the night before will help protect your hair from excess damage during the bleaching process.
For the best results, leave it in for 14 hours and at room temperature. It is not necessary to rinse the oil before bleaching.
Step 2: Create bleaching mixture
Before the bleach, put on plastic gloves and it is best to consider putting something on the floor to protect from spills.
Mix well until the mixture becomes creamy. The mixture should be combined equal amounts of a 20 volume developer with blonde powder lightener in a plastic mixing bowl.
Step 3: Section hair wig
Place your black hair wig into the mannequin head and secure the wig with some T-pins. The T-pins are a little sharp so be careful not to rip the lace. Divide hair into 2 parts from the center of the wig to the end of it. Next, divide each section in half then secure each of four part sections with pins or clips
Note: Remember to detangle the hair before you start sectioning the hair wig.
Step 4: Apply the bleaching mixture
Using a brush, apply the mixture to each layer of hair. To achieve the most natural-looking results, keep the color at least 1/4-1/2 inch (about 1 cm) away from the root. This will help prevent the lace from becoming patchy following the bleaching procedure.
- Do one thin section from one of the back quarters, always making sure it is totally saturated before moving on to the next. Then move on to the two back quarters, then the front quarters.
- Work from roots to ends.
- Work as quickly as possible to achieve an even result. Or use different volumes, for example, using the quicker 30 volume up front and a 20 volume developer in back.
Step 5: Tracking your process
After you finish coating the bleach, let the wig sit for about 22 minutes or more, depending on your purpose. Set a timer for 10 minutes to ensure consistency. Removing a small section with an old cloth to track the process, re-saturate this section with bleach to continue if the color hasn’t got to the way you want to obtain.
Note: To speed up the process, you can consider applying heat with a blow dryer. This is optional since any heating process is likely to increase damage, so don’t do this unless you’re in a hurry.
Step 6: Rinse out the bleach
When your wig turns into your desired color or the bleach reaches the manufacturer’s maximum time recommended, rinse out the developer thoroughly with lukewarm water. This is really important as the excess bleach will damage the hair and impact the durability of your wig.
Step 7: Shampoo and condition your hair
Shampoo lightly, preferably with a shampoo specifically formulated for bleached hair. A shampoo that contains purple toner, for example, will help eliminate brassiness and yellow tones
Shampoo your hair wig lightly with a neutralizing shampoo so that it won’t make the hair strands become too dry and use a color-safe conditioner to protect the color on your hair. Apply some leave-in conditioner to the wig before style, especially if it’s a curly wig, after completely rinsing off any conditioner and color. It will detangle your wig, provide lustrous sheen, and enhance any curls or waves it may have.
Note:
- Avoid heat products when styling to decrease the stress and damage to your hair.
- Shampoo and condition are really important to your hair.
Step 8: Toning Your Hair
This is a crucial step for achieving a beautiful, balanced finish. Toners help balance out undesired tones, adding subtle nuances to your hair color and helping you get just the blonde you want
Mix 1 part toner to 2 parts 10 or 20 volume developer, you can consider 40 volume.
- Using the same sectioning approach as for bleaching, apply toner evenly from root to tip.
- Apply as rapidly as possible and keep a watchful eye on the clock because the toner’s maximum duration is 10 minutes.
- Using the same strand procedure mentioned above for bleaching, check your progress every 5 to 10 minutes.
- Make sure not to overtone white hair, since this can cause it to turn yellowish or gray.
Note: Rest your wig from 2 to 3 weeks before toning.
It takes time to achieve your desired look. Remember the color can turn out not like the way you want it to be because bleaching hair from 1 donor can even cause unwanted splotch. As you can see, it is really nearly impossible to balance the color of human wig hair from 2 to 3 donors. The process takes time and tons of effort, sometimes it can cause hair damage and unwanted hair colors consequently.
