I. What makes colored hair stain?
It is undeniable of the benefits of dyeing your own hair or dyeing your matching human wigs at home. But one of the challenges of problem is
that the color can come off gradually and stain on your hands or clothes after two to three days of dyeing. Annoying as it is, the removing part sometimes can harm your skin and clothes. So what factors make your beautiful hair dye stain on your clothes, skin even though they are temporary or even permanent hair dye?
Here are some of factors that could cause stained hair:
1. Hair dye
To have a clearer look, you have to understand how hair dye works. Cutting to the chase, after bleaching your hair the original hair color proteins become colorless, and the new color pigment can take over and bond to the hair cortex. And each hair dye’s purpose will determine the lasting time of the hair dye molecules trapped inside the hair fiber.
- Permanent hair dye is permanent because it has a larger molecule that sits in the deepest layer of the hair and can’t be washed out.
- Similarly, demi-permanent colors only penetrate partially into the structure, with most of the dye molecules staying outside on the surface.
- Semi-permanent colors don’t go inside at all, and stay only on the surface.
- Permanent hair dye, they will be easily rinsed out from 4-20 shampoos.
Another thing is that you can use hair dye without bleach. These hair dyes are specifically formulated to be vibrant and true without having to lighten your dark strands prior. And just one shampoo you can easily wash away with Temporary Hair Dye and 4 to 8 shampoo with Semi-Permanent.
As you can see, after a certain point the color will stop working, some hair dye molecules aren’t able to be trapped inside the hair fiber anymore and gradually fade out and sometimes stains in your clothes and scarf.
2. Shampoo before dyeing
If you shampoo your hair immediately before dyeing your hair. 1-2 days unwashed hair has a protective barrier on the scalp which can help irritation and color pigment better deposited. Washing them right before dyeing is washing natural hair protection making them easy to get damaged and making dye molecules hard to insert into your hair.
Also, just before dyeing, avoid using styling products (dry shampoo, hair spray, gels etc.). And blondies beware of silver shampoo. Don’t use purple shampoo at least a week before dyeing. It’s because all these cosmetics could disrupt the penetration of color into the hair and make them stain all over your towel after washing.
3. Shampoo after dyeing
Yes, not only before but your hair should avoid water for at least 2 days after hair dyeing. Because chlorine, salt and minerals found in H2O can cause hair’s cuticle (outer layer) to lift, accelerating pigment loss. Give your hair enough time to properly absorb the new color. Waiting to wash allows the dye to more thoroughly penetrate your hair shaft. If you wash your hair too soon, the hair color could lose its saturation.
Tips: Use dry shampoo if you have oily hair. Because sweat is also another factor that contributes to the stain. They are made up mostly of water, with trace amounts of ammonia, urea, sugar, and salts. Those salts can cause your color to fade quickly and the dampness of your hair makes it vulnerable to damage as well.
II. Is it true that bad hair quality makes hair dye stain?
As we have generated about the factors that cause color stain after dyeing. The main reason for those annoying stains mostly come from hair dye and other contributions such as hair caring process before and after dyeing or because of internal reasons like sweat. And bad quality hair is also a matter if they are mixed with other syntherines or their quality is not qualified, they can not be well dyed and will cause severe stains or sometimes the color can not even stay on the surface.
